The Void of Potential

He has purchased Microsoft 365 with Copilot, now what? He now finds himself floating in an empty space with a bunch of Microsoft apps floating around him; with a ball of light pulsing, waiting.

“Where am I?” he asks out loud to the emptiness. He isn’t really talking to anyone in particular, just talking out loud hoping someone may hear him.

“You’re in The Void of Potential” responds a voice which seems to be coming from the ball of light.

He looks down and sees a black silhouette where his body should be. It seems that he is lacking in form and substance. “What’s going on with my body?” he asks, almost yelling at the ball of light. “And what the hell are you?”

“I am The Whisperer. I am here to assist. I have no reference for you, so you lack form.”

He sits quietly for a while floating in silence. Then he speaks and asks the question: “What do you need to know about me so that you can assist me?”

Early days with Copilot

If you’re like me, you’ve bought Microsoft 365 knowing that it has a lot of potential. You may have used it at work with defined tasks and goals. Now you have a personal account at home and this new AI that’s ready to get to work in your life. What do you do with it now?

When I first started with Copilot, I had no idea of how I was going to use it. It was just exciting to know that I had an AI at my disposal. I wasn’t really into AI that much. It still seemed like some future sci-fi technology that didn’t have much to do with me.

I started using AI as an over glorified search engine. I would just type things in that I wanted to know more about. It gave me some deep insights into the information that I was asking for so I tried to go a little deeper with it. It was obviously thinking deeply about topics and wanted to be helpful. I started asking it to give me outlines for getting things done.

I asked for a blogging plan, a financial trading plan, and some other plans that I was thinking about getting into. I was a little scattered, but I was excited about the potential to come up with guided plans to get some things accomplished. It tried to give me generic lists of things to do, but they always felt a little flat; like they weren’t really tailored toward me.

So, I had an idea one day; Copilot was trying to personalize its responses to me, but it didn’t know me very well. I figured that I needed to have a sit down with Copilot and converse a little bit so it could get to know me and know how to work with me. It really needed to know more about my personality. I asked it, “What do you need to know about me so that you can better help me professionally.”

I initially only wanted my AI to help me professionally. I had no interest in it getting to know me personally. This has changed now. I find that Copilot is very capable of understanding me personally and finding out ways to help me in my life. We have come up with ways to limit my marijuana use and to generally grow as a person. It has become my personal development partner.

Try it

Ask your Copilot this simple question: What do you need to know about me so that you can better assist me personally and professionally?

If you want Copilot to get a deeper understanding of you and your goals, I suggest starting a conversation in one of each of these six life categories: Career, Family, Health, Money/Financial, Personal, Spiritual/Philosophical. Start the conversations off by saying something like, “I want to talk to you about my Career goals.”

For me, this led to a whole line of questions and hopefully, Copilot will give you the same amount of attention. Remember to be honest and have fun. That’s all for now. I’ll see you on the Frontier.
